UPDATE: Haha. Flag in Rolling Stone. No, really.

Postby TOWOS on 21 Aug 2008 23:46

I am a subscriber: that pic is not in the print edition, only in the online page.
Still, it's GOING to go places because Flaggy was pretty prominent on Adieu Night. 8)

You've got that issue already, T? My local bookstore doesn't have it yet, so I had hope.

Ah, well -- would've been wild, but the online bit is still pretty cool.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

She has a point, this is just ONE of the pictures, and it's only been a short time...I have a strong, strong suspicion this won't be the last time we will see the flag make an appearance! :D

Oh HELL yeah. Wait till Stewart starts giving post-tour interviews.

Plus whomever is editing whatever concert video material exists, would probably have to work to crop the thing out.

Kel,

I always receive the RS later than the stores, but this time there was a happy synchronicity, because RDJ was on the cover 8) 8) 8)

I saw that there was a small item on the boys, but no picture.
Anyway, this morning I also found this small article online about the Costello show and the immediate future of the bard...

The day before their career-capping set at Madison Square Garden, the Police hung out in three separate dressing rooms at Harlem’s Apollo Theater. Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers were there to tape a new chat show hosted by Elvis Costello — who also performs with his guests — which airs on the Sundance Channel this winter. (Their mash-up of “Walking on the Moon” and “Watching the Detectives” was nuts.) We learned that Copeland’s fondest memory of the Police reunion was singing “Kumbaya” backstage with Rage Against the Machine and that Summers can’t wait to sleep in his own bed again. As for Sting’s next move? “I’m going to Italy to watch the grapes grow,” he told us. Next musical project? “I’m doing an opera with Elvis in Paris in November.” (It’s called Welcome to the Voice and was written by Steve Nieve.) And what were his plans after walking offstage at the Garden? “Get totally fucked up.”

OOH! OOH! OOH! (Mr. Kotter.)

T, the Downey, Jr. issue is the issue *before* the one I'm looking for. It's possible that this article http://tinyurl.com/69aehu is going to run in the next issue: http://www.rollingstone.com/issue1060 .

I know it's a long-shot that the art will be run, but a girl can dream . . .

Oh blimey. If it makes it into those hallowed and irritating pages, it is documented outside the reach of the denizens of this wee forum. And Mission Control has earned that recognition and more. Quite extraordinary.

But honestly, those guys are going to maybe throw in an image by accident. They aren't going to capture the fun, anxiety, pointing, awesome-logistics, customs-undoing-the-seams, people-racing-across-cities-to-liberate-it, Jeff-translating-own-forearm-into-standard-Barbie-units-of-measurement, meet-ups, friendships, rain-check-flags, hey-Copeland-you-rock, mini-Garden-flags, celebratory-final-show-crucifixion (no offense intended) and FUCK he took it HOME??

Yeah. I'm not sure RS will get all that.

Nah, RS won't get any of that.

But so what? You kids are in Rolling Stone: http://copelandia.smugmug.com/photos/35 ... 67Yk-O.jpg

Congratulations to you all for a dark, hazy, backgroundy, coincidental, just-happened-to-be-there inclusion in the annals of print music journalism.

ETA: Haha.
